Why You Should Not Unfollow Inactive Twitter Users

Meetaplex Follows You

There’s a very widespread notion that unfollowing so-called ‘inactive’ Twitter users is a good way to help manage a follow ratio. We’re talking here about unfollowing users who actually follow you, I should stress – not the ones who don’t. The idea is that you use a management tool such as ManageFlitter to determine which of your followers have not tweeted for a long time, and then unfollow them, primarily on the basis that they’re not using the site, won’t notice you unfollowed them, and thus won’t unfollow back.

But there are several problems with this theory. Firstly, Continue reading Why You Should Not Unfollow Inactive Twitter Users

Has The New Connections System Improved Twiends?

Twiends Connections

Twiends is a ‘freemium’ facility for Twitter users who want to build up their follower count extremely quickly – and it certainly accomplishes that goal. But back in April 2014, I published a post called Why Twiends Doesn’t Work. I concluded that whilst Twiends does indeed rapidly increase your follower count, for free, the followers to whom it gives you access will almost inevitably be so singularly absorbed with promoting themselves, that they won’t pay any attention to you.

A substantial part of my criticism centred around Twiends’ motivational system, in which points, or Seeds, as they were known, were awarded to users in return for following Twitter accounts. One year later, however, Twiends began rolling out major revisions, scrapping the Seeds system, and shifting to a new method of operation called Connections. Is this a new dawn for Twiends?

Reverse Promotion: What Actually is #FF – Follow Friday?

Barack Obama Follow Friday

Surely, no one who’s used Twitter for more than about a month can have failed to observe the insidious and disengaging deluge of #FF tweets at the end of each working week. #FF stands for Follow Friday, and at face value, it’s a selfless gesture in which a user kindly promotes other people’s accounts – urging the Twittersphere to follow them. But is Follow Friday really as selfless as it looks? Does it actually work? And why, given that social media is the ultimate encapsulation of me-culture, do so many people apparently take time out of their hard-line “ME! ME! ME!” campaigns to actively promote users they barely know?..

Why You Shouldn’t Care About Blog Followers

Treadmill

Do you know, or can you guess, what a ‘content slave’ is? If not, you may actually be one. But before I explain, I want you to ask yourself how important blog followers are in your blogging regime. If you regard followers as the be-all-and-end-all, you may, without realising it, have fallen into a trap which has enslaved you to your keyboard, and prompted you to work much, much harder than was ever necessary. How To Find Out How Many Of Your WordPress Followers Click Through From Email

WordPress Follower Email

It’s an important piece of information, which potentially helps you establish whether the time you spend gaining WordPress.com followers is a productive venture. But if you’ve ever looked in your WordPress stats for evidence of users reading via email, chances are you’ve found a void. Inherently, WordPress doesn’t tell you when visitors to your posts have clicked through from email. You’ll see the page visits registered, but no indication of where they came from. HELP!!! My Twitter Followers Are Not Listening!: The Remedies

Twitter FollowBack

They’re not listening, are they? Most of them aren’t, anyway. Or at least that’s what you think. But you’re not alone. That feeling of shouting into a void is a part of most people’s Twitter experience, and it’s where the more serious social media analysts are now focusing the bulk of their attention. Any idiot can get 5,000 followers on Twitter, but 5,000 followers who actually listen? No. That kind of attention is reserved only for the famous. Or is it?… Continue reading HELP!!!
